A humble tribute

I wondered quite a bit before starting this blog as to what would be the first thing my viewers would lay their eyes upon when they visit my blog. After some scrutiny, I found it fitting to add the image of one of my heroes at the top, a philosopher and a towering intellectual whose famous pen-name was Voltaire and who was the embodiment of 18th century Enlightenment, here seen holding a feather pen and looking into the distance as ideas flow inside his brain, surrounded by possessions he cherished most: books, ink and note papers. He was a man who wrote with courage (and without restraint) about anything and everything, and his unique ability to add humor and wit to his pieces makes him a writer and a human being with supreme appeal and great charisma. I admire him deeply because he was the kind of man the world in general and our (Pakistani) society in particular lacks today: a man capable of speaking up against intolerant and harsh rulers without fear of being persecuted. I am nobody to follow in his footsteps yet I aspire to be a bit like him, to express myself freely and abundantly as he did. That said, welcome to my blog. There are two purposes for creating it: first, that I love to write and this gives me a pleasant space to do so and second, that those who read it might experience some form of mental motion and perhaps share their writings and knowledge with me.
